Well we don’t know for sure if Series 2 will have Irene as a love interest. We know she’ll be present, but don’t know the bearing of her presence. I’m hoping they make her as Sherlock’s rival (Moffat, don’t demean your female characters for once. Please).
I actually thought it was a popular opinion for people to not want Irene as a love interest. I know I certainly don’t. I think romance (any romance, yes even between Sherlock/John and ship it more than life itself) would detract from the quality of the show. :\
